Life is like a roller-coaster

Life is like a roller-coaster - full of ups and downs, twist and turns. But the similarity doesn't stop there. The climb towards higher altitude is always slow and unexciting, but the descend can be sudden and swift (think free-fall). On top of that, things in life always go one full circle - you'll be back to the same point where you started off.

Meanwhile, enjoy the ride and don't puke after you alight.

Tragic traffic accidents involving Singaporeans have been happening at an unusually high frequency lately. It can get depressing coming across such news. Still remember the family whose car swerved off the North -South Highway in Malaysia and left only one sole survivor - the two-month old baby who miraculously survived despite being flung out from the vehicle? Then there was this bike enthusiast who died on the same highway while on his way to KL. A divorcee, he left behind two children aged 12 and 13. Then in yesterday's papers, a young boy was flung out from a minibus when it collided with two cars. The boy later died in hospital. Then in today's papers, a lady who survived breast cancer was knocked down by a taxi in front of Kallang MRT.

It is really heart-breaking to read about these news. Innocent, precious lives are just wasted like this, leaving behind loved ones who must cope with immense despair and grief. It wrenches my heart even more when I feel that some of these accidents could have been prevented in the first place. It just takes that additional bit of carefulness and patience, and many more lives can be saved from this preventable cause of death. Now that I have my license and I can drive, I must always remind myself to drive defensively - always spare a thought for your passengers, as well as for other road users. As the case in today's papers have proven, road accidents can be even more lethal than cancer.
