Crazy

It has been a long time since I last posted! I've been very busy lately, despite it being a holiday. )=

I think the govt is seriously crazy for raising the price of petrol and diesel by so much. While there is the need to cut back subsidies, raising it by so much at one go just totally doesn't make sense. Doesn't the govt know that a lot of people are already screaming for help due to the never-ending price hikes elsewhere, from the price of bread and rice to toll tariffs? Doesn't the govt know that inflation has been really suffocating in recent months and this sudden spike in pump prices will certainly, definitely and undoubtedly bring about another round of inflation, especially when many unscrupulous traders will siege this opportunity to charge much higher prices for everything?

Giving out rebates to car owners won't do much help to most people. The price of diesel jumped more than that of petrol, meaning that transportation fees will be up, and that increase in cost could well spiral to all goods and services and that directly translates into much much higher cost of living for the people. And there is no help provided by the govt to offset that, not even much safeguards against those unscrupulous traders as we all know that enforcement is weak and such traders are almost everywhere from bus companies to food stalls. Worse still when the public transport system is so weak that it is not an alternative for most people. Just ask those staying outside the capital. Even in the capital itself it's not much of a choice. So honestly, the huge spike in price just totally doesn't sound right.

Why can't the govt listen more to the people and do things in the right way? Want to cut back subsidies? At least do it slowly, and provide those who need help with more help, and provide all of us with alternative - in the form of better public transport.
