Rat dissection!
Today's bio prac, we had the chance to dissect rats! First time dissecting an entire organism. Last time only dissected pig's heart and pig's eye before in high school. During the prac, Miao Jing told me she dissected frogs, rabbits, pigeons and goldfish before for her bio pracs back in China. A bit experienced. =D
Anyway, the prac started with Mr. Ngoh demonstrating to us how to carry out the dissection. He chose a pregnant female rat, so when he cut open the ventral side of the abdomen, there were 13 foetuses there. Could see the heads, tails, ears and toes that have been formed. Quite gross actually, with the blood and placenta all over the place. Then he showed us what to look out for, blah blah, and then we set off to do our own dissection.
Some people chose to dissect male rats instead, for the sake of being able to analyse the scrotum sac and its contents. Well, most succeeded, and they seemed to have lots of fun doing that. (Gross =X) Then some also managed to crack the skull to peep at the brain. Realised that rat's brain consists of 3 lobes, each lobe is as small as a peanut. (Peanut brain!) OK, and some rats stink, cos there were holes on their intestines or something, so you get the stench. My rat's intestine was like bulging, bet it was a hungry rat when it was alive.
So that was all about rat dissection. Nobody fainted, nobody puked. Yep, everyone from 7D is strong! ><
